Thrift your Closet!

Hey Everyone! It’s been a hot minute since I wrote my last post! It’s been quite a year for Wild Ways! I’ve participated in lots of pop-ups and markets. I’ve organized a market. I’ve collaborated on lots of projects. I’ve filmed and photographed a lot of content. I’ve created a Skill Share course which I will continue to add to. I’ve filmed my first closet tour. I had my product launch in The Livery Shop….

and now…I stay home!

This year got off to a bumpy start to say the least. With the rise of COVID-19, comes an immense amount of challenges to navigate. Doing right by our loved ones, our healthcare system, and our society as a whole, means staying home as much as possible! Businesses who have closed their doors in order to protect their patrons and the general public, need our support. This is particularly hard on small businesses, and it means that we need to continue to support those businesses through other means- buy a gift card, buy online, follow like and post for these businesses that are so vital to our community! This is tough on everyone, but it is an absolute necessity and it is our duty as Canadians and Earthlings.

For me, not being able to comb thrift stores has felt like lemon juice in an open wound…but I CAN STILL FREAKING BREATHE! I will not go on and on about how much it pisses me off to see stories of people blatantly ignoring the advice of experts to help save lives simply by staying home. All I am going to say, is that by making the choice to stay home, we are making a choice to save lives! None of the other challenges we face can compare to the challenge of someone struggling to breath, and not knowing if they’re breathing their last breath. So to all of you that have been social distancing and staying home as often as possible - THANK YOU!

Now, onto a stress release! So, I can’t thrift….for the first time in my life….I can’t thrift. This has been difficult, but I have found other solutions. I am a creative soul at heart, so I have spent the time on my Wild Ways to-do list. So often I bring home pieces that need a little TLC or an alteration to modernize it before it goes in my shop. This to-do list has been growing and growing (they grow up so fast)! So I have been sorting, repairing, sewing, filming content, making patterns, adding embellishments, and doing all things creative during this “down time”. I believe it’s important to keep your mind busy, to create projects for yourself when none exist. I believe it’s important to create routine - continue to get up at the same time each day (which I need to work on), tackle projects that you haven’t had the time or energy to tackle. Most important of all - spend time with your family - if they’re in the same house, then go for walks together, play with your kiddos or siblings or pets. Snuggle, watch movies, play board games, face time, call people - as awful as this situation is, opportunities for connection can be found. I have never cuddled my pets or my hubby more than I have this past week. Life is fragile, and we need to take every opportunity to talk to, hold, love, and cherish the special people and fur babies in our lives.

In addition, if you’re like me, and you’re desperately missing thrifting, THRIFT YOUR CLOSET! Get down to the bones of it and clear it out! Try on, form outfits you might not otherwise have the time to form, photograph yourself to see if you like them, post it to IG if you want….

I’ll be posting a virtual thrift session tomorrow as a preview of all the spring goodies coming your way! Maybe this will help those of you that are missing thrifting as much as I am! Thank you to everyone that has supported my business through online purchases! Your support means more than I can say, and I quite literally do a happy dance when your orders roll in! If you have purchased in the past few days, or plan to, please take a moment to read through the updated shipping information. I have made some changes to shipping so I can do my part to flatten the curve. Stay tuned kids! Keep safe, and stay home! <3
